Interface and Adapter Development Factory

Overview
The client is the world's leading energy company whose main activities are exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas; refining and marketing; and petrochemicals. The client strategically outsourced development of their EAI solution to Infosys, including select program management roles.

Business Need

The client has several Business Units (BUs) across the globe. There was a pressing need for information created and stored by one BU to be made available to other BUs. The EAI solution is an enterprise-wide initiative that has resulted from this business need to integrate different Projects operating in different BUs. The project in this case was a tactical solution to implement a derivatives trade capture system and integrate it with the middle and back-office systems.

The Challenge

The other interfacing projects had no plans for its inclusion of global oil derivatives in the roadmap and therefore this project aimed to bridge the current gap between the immediate needs till the strategic vision is implemented. It has to integrate with multiple applications.

Infosys Solution

As part of this project, Infosys was involved in the architecture, development and testing of complex interfaces/adapters to aid the integration between the multiple systems. Infosys leveraged existing experience on EAI technologies to quickly ramp up during knowledge transfer phase and assist in architecture level design discussions and decision making.

Infosys' Global Delivery Model (GDM) facilitated effective resource utilization and cost-savings. CMM Level 5 processes followed throughout project lifecycle governed high quality deliverables. To minimize the risks involved and accelerate project delivery, elaborate change management and stringent defect prevention procedures were implemented.

Benefits

The Project leveraged the EAI Solution for its integration needs as part of an ICC (Integration Competency Centre). This project demonstrates the value that the ICC delivers in terms of reusability, knowledge management and quicker turnaround times.

Partnership approach with the client team was achieved by extending the benefits associated with use of the EAI solution and the ICC at client site like:

  • Improved quality of delivery
  1. Qualified, experienced resources
  2. Standard templates and procedures for Interface/Adaptor development
  • Reduce total cost of ownership
  1. Reuse of artifacts across projects
  2. Lower development / support costs through an offshore delivery model
  3. Reuse of tools
  • Reduce time-to-market
  1. Reuse of standard components
  2. Effective use of GDM for quicker time to ramp up
  • Risk Mitigation
  1. Smoother transition to maintenance and support team
  2. Regression test packs for testing
